Tonight's sunset will look a little more spectacular, but not for a good reason.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that there was haze in the skies over Delaware. Smog is caused by smoke from fires in western North America.

This is not a new phenomenon, with the region experiencing smoke from the Western Fires in 2023.

Additionally, clouds and rain will begin to move into the area on Monday, making the haze less noticeable.

Alex Staarmann, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office, said: “The sky will be foggy, but after today, there will also be more clouds around, along with showers and showers. storm.

Western fire smoke improves sunset, sunrise

The smoke will help produce a spectacular sunset tonight. As the sun sets toward the horizon, its rays will interact with hazy clouds to create a colorful sunset.

“The sun, especially when there are clouds, will appear more orange and red,” Staman said. “It will be more dynamic.

“The way the light is scattered and absorbed by the clouds accentuates the orange and red colors,” he added. “As the sun gets closer to the horizon, it cuts through the mist and you see more.”

Vibrant colors can be seen at both sunset and sunrise.
