Nashville, Tenn. (WSMV) – A First Alert Weather Day It is now in effect Monday through Friday due to excessive temperatures and humidity and the risk of a few severe storms.
First Alert Weather Day
Temperatures will rise again in the midstate area this week, with high temperatures returning to the mid-90s starting this afternoon. As humidity increases we will see heat index values between 100-105° in some areas.
A heat advisory is in effect for west-central Tennessee today through Wednesday night, with more hot and humid weather expected to come.
Parts of the region, primarily west of Interstate 65, will also be at risk for several severe storms today. Severe threats are generally isolated, but any storm development could bring heavy rain and gusty winds.
On Tuesday, high temperatures will reach the 90s in parts of the central region, with the heat index topping 105 degrees. Again, there is a risk of sudden strong to severe storms tomorrow afternoon, but the overall risk remains isolated. Not everyone will see a storm tomorrow, but for those who do, we need to be wary of heavy downpours and strong winds.
Wednesday and Thursday will see the peak of the heat, with the highest temperature reaching over 90 degrees, with the heat index approaching or exceeding 110 degrees in some areas. There is no doubt that we will see more heat warnings in the coming days.
The heat will continue to be hot on Friday with highs in the mid-90s, so heat will remain the main focus of our first alert weather day. But we also need to be aware of localized, isolated storms. At this time, there is no serious threat, but light rain may still occur in some areas.
Temperatures will remain in the 90s this weekend, but we won't see severe heat index values. Showers or storms can't be ruled out either, but most of us will stay dry.
