An upper-level low pressure system continues to hang over New England on Monday. This is a storm that developed offshore to our south over the weekend.
Then, late Sunday, clouds and showers push toward the south coast. By Monday, the winds and waves were strong enough that we had high surf warnings in place along the coast. There will be large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents on the beaches Monday night.
This is not an ideal day to head to the beach by any means as there will be clouds and showers throughout the day. Still, some inland areas saw highs in the 80s, while coastal areas saw temperatures in the 70s.
Showers and occasional thunderstorms will wrap around the circulation as low pressure moves into the Gulf of Maine on Monday. Therefore, some of the rainfall will move from the northwest or even west to southwest.
Low pressure moves northeast Monday night, with some fog developing overnight as humidity increases. That means Monday night will be milder, with temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Tuesday brings us sunshine and clouds with cooler air aloft. This will lead to instability and some sudden showers indoors during the afternoon. Not everyone will see these showers, so it will be drier, wetter and warmer for much of the day, with highs reaching the mid-80s.
Temperatures will be in the mid-80s on Wednesday, with the possibility of scattered showers and storms as another system moves in.
On Thursday, we may have a chance of showers or storms with temperatures rising into the 90s. This weekend will bring more heat and humidity as we see storms or showers at times.
There is also plenty of drying time on the weekends. Stay tuned for updated forecasts this week.
