Tornadoes, downpours and thunderstorms are possible in Louisville Monday night as severe storms are expected to move into the area.
National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Neudorff said Louisville faces a slight risk of severe weather on Monday, with the strongest storms expected later in the day. An early round of showers and thunderstorms could roll into the Louisville metro around lunchtime, but those storms likely won't be as strong as the overnight waves. The storms are expected to move into the region between 8pm and midnight on Tuesday, with localized flooding and damaging winds the main threats. A spinning tornado cannot be ruled out either.
Louisville and southern Indiana, as well as the Interstate 75 corridor in central Kentucky, face a slight risk of severe weather, Neudorff said. Parts of the metro area could see more than an inch of rain on Monday.
If Monday afternoon's storm brings heavy rain, the severity of the storm could weaken in the evening.
“Throughout the morning, clouds will move into our area,” Neudorf said. “Those high clouds can minimize our warming, and by minimizing our warming, that may reduce available Energy, we call it instability.”
Later in the week, Neudorf said the otherwise hot and humid weather could bring the possibility of multiple storms. Neudorf said these storms may be isolated and sometimes bring heavy rain, but they may not be severe.
