PHOENIX — The chance of storms is waning this week as monsoon moisture levels trend downward over the course of several days.
High pressure is moving eastward, limiting monsoon moisture and reducing the chance of storms across the state into midweek.
A few storms are still possible each day over higher terrain in southern Arizona and northeastern Arizona.
Here in the Valley, we may see some showers or thunderstorms today after storms hit our south this afternoon, but overall chances are limited.
The ridge of high pressure will eventually move back to the west, bringing hotter weather and the return of monsoon moisture.
Storm chances will trend upward starting Thursday, with storm chances remaining daily through the weekend.
Temperatures will also gradually warm this week.
Valley highs will reach around 110 degrees each afternoon, with overnight lows in the 80s to lows of the week in the 90s.
As temperatures continue to rise, the risk of heat stroke and heat-related illness remains.
Limit time outside, especially in the afternoon when the day is hottest. Stay hydrated with water and electrolyte drinks, and never leave children or pets alone in the car, no matter how fast the task is.
