STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rainy weather that started Monday afternoon is expected to continue throughout the week.
According to AccuWeather, a storm near southern New England is responsible for a wet Monday morning in New York City.
AccuWeather meteorologist Alyssa Glenny said rain could continue into Monday night as the storm moves from the coast into southern New England.
“Today's temperatures are expected to be a few degrees cooler than the past few days. Our highs today and tomorrow will be in the mid-80s,” Glennie said. “It's still going to feel a little damp over the next 12 to 24 hours, with thundershowers possible – it's not going to be a completely dry period.”
Meteorologists say once we get into Tuesday, we'll have another storm that will push from the west into the Great Lakes region and eventually over Staten Island.
“We're expecting some showers and then more thunderstorms throughout the day as the showers continue to move through the area,” Glennie explained. “We're not expecting flooding rainfall, but every 12 hours Rainfall amounts will generally be less than 1/4 inch. We do not expect to get wet.
As we move into midweek, temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler by Wednesday than what New York City has experienced over the past few days, Glenny said.
“The high on Wednesday is 86 degrees. We're going to have more storms, but they're probably going to be mainly in the morning to noon,” Glennie said. “A brief dry spell is more likely Wednesday night.”
Come Thursday, Glennie predicts there should be more rest and dry stretches throughout the day.
AccuWeather is monitoring another storm system that will reach Staten Island on Friday.
“it [Friday’s storm] It does look like a wet, recurring thunderstorm,” Glennie said. “That will help bring the temperatures down a little bit, but the first half of the week looks to be the coolest.”
Temperatures will be in the low 80s Monday through Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.
“The highest temperature of the week will be Thursday,” Glennie said. “Thursday, maybe Friday, we'll be back in the 90s.”
Glennie said the storm arriving Friday is expected to continue into the evening.
“We still have a chance of thunderstorms and showers going into Saturday,” Glennie said. “However, Sunday is a little uncertain as to how far north this storm might move, but there's a chance that Sunday will be dry. one day.”
“I don't say that with a lot of confidence,” Glennie added.
wind
Winds will be from the south and southwest, according to AccuWeather. More breezy conditions are expected Tuesday into Wednesday as the storm moves.
“The breeze will probably become lighter and less pronounced heading into Wednesday night,” Glennie said. “I think the maximum gusts Tuesday into Wednesday will be up to 20 mph, so it's not going to be that intense.”
