You'll want to keep your umbrella handy for the next few days, but just as we turn the page into August, so do temperatures in New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, and Connecticut.
Considerable parts of the region escaped the torrential downpours on Monday, but where it rained it was sure to pour. Thankfully we won't be dealing with that kind of activity on Tuesday, but we do expect a shower or two for our western suburbs this afternoon. If you manage to avoid the heavy rain, expect muggy weather with changeable skies and highs in the 80s.
The chance of rain will increase Tuesday night as the aforementioned showers taper off across the area. Some activity may be disrupted, but it will still be enough to dampen parts of the region.
Tomorrow, the weather will remain somewhat unsettled as a cold front moves through the neighborhood. So keep your umbrellas handy, but we don't want to have washouts or anything like that.
As for the second half of the week, expect brighter skies, temperatures near 90 degrees, and dew points stuck in the 70s, which will make it feel very hot and sticky with that classic summer feel.
Parts of our region may officially enter a heat wave – three days in a row with temperatures over 90 degrees – while other areas may just barely miss out, with temperatures reaching around 89 degrees, interrupting streaks of high temperatures in the 90s. Whether we enter an official heat wave or not, the next few days are going to feel very hot and humid.
