Rinse and repeat!
High temperatures and humidity continue to rise in the Greenfield area.
How is the weather this week?
Start hydrating now! Tuesday's highs climbed back into the upper 90s, with some areas north of Tulsa approaching 100 degrees. If you have to go out today, persistent southerly winds will be the one thing we need to do.
Unfortunately, the weather is going to get worse before it gets better. On Wednesday and Thursday, high temperatures will climb into triple digits in more green areas, with those dreaded heat indexes approaching or above 110 again. The chances are very slim early Thursday, but most of us won't see any impact.
A small change in the upper-level pattern later this week will bring a very weak front to the area late Thursday into early Friday. This front will provide enough force for some scattered showers or storms Thursday night into Friday morning, but unfortunately most of us will miss it. It won't bring significant cooling, but highs behind the boundary will return to the upper 90s by the weekend.
Everyone, hang in there! This is typically the hottest time of the year and the next few days will be the same. Take extra care over the next few days to stay hydrated and pace yourself.
EMSA Thermal Safety Tips:
- Prehydration is key to preventing heat-related illnesses. Drink plenty of water or electrolyte-replenishing drinks before and during prolonged exposure to summer heat.
- If working outdoors, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and rest in the shade.
- Contains no alcohol or caffeine.
- If you don't have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space during the day (such as a library or mall).
- Don't limit the use of air conditioning.
- If working outdoors, use a buddy system and check on older neighbors.
- Keep your phone with you at all times when you are outdoors, including while walking, running errands, doing yard work, or during sports and physical activities.
