Two rape cases registered in Hyderabad on Tuesday sparked outrage. In the first case, a software engineer was gang-raped by two friends at a hotel in Vanasthalipuram. One of them was a childhood friend she studied with from second to tenth grade. The most shocking thing is that this happened while there were other passengers on board. The assailant gagged the woman's mouth to stop her cries.
In the Vanasthalipuram case, the software engineer was invited by his childhood friend Gautham Reddy to attend a party at Bommarillu Hotel in Omkar Nagar. Other mutual friends were also present.
They had dinner and drinks at the restaurant and then checked into a room in the hotel. Gautham Reddy and another friend allegedly raped the woman when she was drunk. When she regained consciousness, she screamed and hotel staff rushed to the room. Both defendants fled the scene. The woman has lodged a complaint with Vanasthalipuram police and the case is under investigation.
The woman who was raped on the moving bus dialed 100 and called the police when the bus reached Medchar. Hyderabad police intercepted the bus near Osmania University and arrested both drivers.
During the ongoing budget session of the Telangana Assembly, the opposition drew the attention of the state government to the spike in crime. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister Harish Rao claimed that the crime rate has increased since the Congress party came to power. He claimed murders and rapes were occurring with impunity, but the government and police seemed indifferent.
“As many as 500 murders have been reported in the state in the past eight months. If this continues, it will affect investments in the state.
