After the video went viral, Uttarakhand police released a detailed account of the vehicle that went to the house of IPS officer Archana Tyagi in Dehradun to “contain” an LPG cylinder leak
Hours after a video purportedly showing a fire truck supplying water to senior Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Archana Tyagi's residence in Dehradun went viral, the police released a detailed note saying the vehicle had gone to “Control” leakage of LPG cylinders.
The footage, shot in June, has now been revealed. In the 50-second clip, a fire truck can be seen parked outside Tyagi's residence on the busy EC Road. A pipe can also be seen leading to the house. In the same video, a woman can be heard saying: “Kya IPS ke ghar paani bharne fire bharne fire brigade aa jati hai (Is there a fire truck that can provide water to the IPS officers)?” People are heard asking the police but they no respond.
Dehradun is facing high temperatures this year. Severe water shortage has been reported in several residential areas, including the EC Road area of Tyagi.
Netizens reacted angrily to the video and raised questions about the alleged abuse of power. News18 contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADGP) Amit Sinha to get details of the actual situation.
“We will investigate what led the fire engines to reach (Archana Tyagi's) residence,” he said. Interestingly, soon thereafter, the Dehradun police issued a clarification.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh said in a note that the incident dates back to June 15. Vehicles were dispatched.
“After the team reached the spot, they sprayed water on the LPG cylinder and the situation was brought under control,” the SSP wrote.
Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Archana Tyagi hails from Dehradun. She taught in a local college before passing the UPSC Civil Services Examination. The Bollywood movie Mardaani 2 was inspired by her life.
