Three civil service aspirants drowned at a training center in New Delhi on Monday, July 29, 2024, as the MCD demolished the encroachment while driving to Old Rajinder Nagar.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a sealing drive in Mukherjee Nagar, an area known for providing housing training centers for civil service candidates.
With just a month and a half left for the UPSC main line exams, candidates in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, are facing a crisis as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a sealing drive on Monday, July 29. Civil service candidates are at the heart of this operation.
A few days ago, three civil service aspirants were killed when water logging occurred in the basement of a coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar. According to reports, heavy rain caused the biometric entrance and exit of the Rao IAS Study Circle to malfunction, leading to the unfortunate incident.
An MCD official said action is being taken against establishments using basements illegally in the area. The official announced that a city-wide crackdown on underground illegal business activities would follow.
A UPSC civil service candidate who is currently studying at a coaching center in Mukherjee Nagar revealed that most coaching centers have closed their libraries after Saturday's tragedy. The student said, “I was scheduled to appear for the UPSC Mains exam in six weeks but the library at my coaching center has been closed. All my study materials and books are kept there and I cannot retrieve them at the moment.
“Late on Sunday night, we received a message instructing us to collect the books from the library by 6 am on Monday. I was already asleep, how could I agree in the morning? Many students in our center are currently preparing for the UPSC Mains exam .
The MCD took swift action over the continued illegal use of the basement, firing one officer and suspending another. Separately, an anti-encroachment drive was launched on Monday to remove illegal structures obstructing storm water drains, which are linked to waterlogging issues in the old Rajendra Nagar area.
On Sunday, the company sealed 13 unauthorized training centers in the vicinity. Earlier, the police sealed off the Rao IAS Study Circle where three students were brutally killed on Saturday.
