MONTANA – Temperatures are rising from the upper 80s to lower 90s in Montana today.
Smoke remains in Ravalli, Deer Lodge, Granite and Silver Bow counties and air quality alerts remain in effect. Extreme fire danger continues in northeastern Montana, including the Glasgow and Jordan areas, with a fire weather warning in effect until 9 p.m.
Winds reached 35 mph and humidity dropped to 7%. Winds will be 10 to 20 mph, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph.
Pacific moisture is moving into western Montana and a few showers and thunderstorms will develop in southwestern Montana.
A trough of low pressure is pulling moisture into Montana, and beneficial rainfall is actually possible for all but the Northeast on Tuesday. After that, high pressure will move into the state, causing a return to hot weather later this week and into the weekend. This ridge will form along the West Coast next week, which will bring cooler air into Montana east of the divide, but it will still be hot in the west.
Lowest temperatures tonight will be in the mid-50s to mid-60s, with temperatures reaching the mid-40s in some areas. Highs tomorrow will be in the 60s and 70s west, mid 80s to lower 90s northeast.
Later this week and into the weekend, highs will rise into the 90s to around 100 degrees.
