Weather Impact Day: Serious threat bringing the possibility of heavy rain, gusty winds

Updated: July 29, 2024 at 10:31 pm (ET)

Thank you for doing this, Mary. She is a friend of WLWT. Of course, I have my WLWT mobile app here and I'll check it out later in the evening. Kevin and I didn't like what we saw. Yes, I certainly want to be after midnight. So probably after 9 or 10 o'clock, I think somewhere around that hour or close to midnight, things start to get a little shaky around us. But here we go. You can see we do have a threat of severe weather later tonight. There is a low-end tornado threat. Now, we're certainly not talking about a lot of tornadoes. That's not what we're dealing with here. But I can't rule out a caveat or two. The main concern is the threat of heavy rainfall and strong winds. Later tonight, it will happen again. There will be a light rain before then. Just like that was the case tonight. Let’s start with a quick look at the radar. There was heavy downpour around the community of Mayville. There aren't really many of them. I don't expect much action early tonight, but I can't rule out the possibility of fast moving downpours or even fast storms for some. Several of them headed toward Lawrenceburg and Aurora. But be warned, they don't really last long. Earlier tonight, again, I didn't think it was going to be a big deal for us. There's also something going on in parts of Fayette Union County that are heading to freedom with a little thunder and lightning. I'm keeping a close eye on what happens tonight in northwest Indianapolis because whatever happens here is ultimately going to be something we have to deal with tonight. That's why as these storms develop in central Indiana, they will move toward the Ohio River, and perhaps the greatest threat for severe weather typically comes from the metropolitan area. Then point southwest along the Ohio River. So we at least have a decent chance. We'll probably see at least a few. I don't think the low end severe thunderstorm warning precludes a tornado warning or two tornado warnings. Later tonight I can show you how these storms are going to hit again earlier tonight. Maybe a downpour or two after nine or ten o'clock. This complex storm will begin arriving after 9 or 10 tonight (probably sometime around midnight) and move quickly through the area so that by the time the sun rises tomorrow morning, this system is fully migrating. We may have some lingering shower activity to the east by 7am, but I think that will fade from here and we are dealing with a mostly dry Tuesday. so. But that's just part of what's going to be a pretty stormy week for us. We're 83 now, but check it out. I don't have to tell you about that dew point. If you've been outside today, you know it was pretty muggy. So not only is this humidity likely to exacerbate the threat of severe weather, but it could also trigger locally heavy rainfall from any storms that arrive tonight. Likewise, tomorrow 88 will be a mostly dry day while any storms at 71 tonight pose a threat of flooding. I think more of us are dry, or most of us are dry than see any rain. I'll save a shower there for a chance, but I don't have high expectations for tomorrow. Here's the 7-day weather forecast, and overall, it's going to be stormy here through Friday as we'll be in the crossroads of a variety of storms over the next few days. So this is unlikely to be our only threat from severe weather. As the week goes on, things will calm down and get a little hotter by the weekend. Okay, Kevin, thank you very much.

We're heading into a sweltering week with the potential for heavy downpours every day. LIVE RADAR // Latest Weather Alerts Monday is likely to be one of the wetter days for us, especially as we move into the late afternoon and evening. Due to the high humidity we may experience the threat of heavy downpours (watch out for high water areas) and gusty winds. This could result in delays to Monday night's outdoor games or practices. It will be in the upper 80s but feel more like the mid 90s. On Wednesday, some towns will again have the chance to be subject to afternoon raids.
