LAPEER, Ind. (WISH) – Severe storms Monday night caused damage to the Frankton Lapeer School Administration Building east of Perkinsville.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis said Tuesday that “tornado damage is suspected near the Hamilton/Madison county line near Perkinsville, with a possible touchdown east/southeast of Newcastle.”
The National Weather Service will be at the building Tuesday to determine whether wind or a tornado caused the damage and to determine estimated wind speeds, according to Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
The Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that space now used for offices and a gym in the former Jackson School and current administration building was severely damaged.
“The stadium was destroyed when its walls and roof collapsed. Several buses were damaged, as well as much of the building's roof system. Earlier, it was confirmed that there was a debris field near Perkinsville, but it took some time to be discovered . No injuries reported and all units remain on scene,” the post read.
