MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Tennessee is bracing for severe weather today as forecasts predict strong winds and heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of wind damage, downed trees and flash flooding. Due to recent rainfall and additional heavy rain expected today, the National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a flood warning for the area.
Thunderstorms will move into Tennessee from the northwest this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. These storms are expected to bring wind gusts in excess of 60 mph and heavy rainfall, which could cause flash flooding in already saturated areas. The timing of the storm is uncertain, but is expected to develop throughout the day.
In addition to the threat of severe weather, heat and humidity will continue across Tennessee. Heat index values of 105°F to 109°F are expected, especially in areas west of Interstate 65, including Clarksville, Nashville and Waverly. The National Weather Service recommends residents stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities and check in vulnerable groups, such as older adults, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
The next few days are expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to rise to 92°F, with warm weather continuing into the weekend. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, stay informed of the latest weather updates, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during severe weather.
