Residents in areas including Austin, San Antonio and Houston faced another round of severe weather warnings Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning after a week of storms, flooding and tornadoes battering the state.
Forecasters said residents in Austin and San Antonio should prepare for severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood watch remains in effect for the Houston area. Meteorologists are predicting showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. One to three inches of rainfall is expected over the weekend. Flooding is expected in creeks, rivers and streams and other low-lying areas in urban areas, the National Weather Service said.
Scattered storms are expected to develop in North and Central Texas early Saturday afternoon, turning into heavy rainfall overnight. The National Weather Service said the area will experience flash flooding, strong winds, hail and lightning.
In addition, heavy rainfall could cause overnight flash flooding, the agency said.
Texans are encouraged to shelter in place if the storm approaches their area. The agency says everyone should stay informed about weather conditions when venturing out and carry a device with them to receive additional weather alerts.
A severe storm spawned tornadoes in the Houston metro area over the weekend, injuring two people and dumping about a foot of rain. Severe weather warnings were in effect for four days, with storms causing widespread flooding and more than 1,000 reports of damage to buildings and homes.
