Wet weather returns to Philadelphia area this week, could bring storms

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s late July and, as you might expect, wet weather is back in the Philadelphia area and is here to stay for a while. The added moisture will allow additional clouds to mix with sunshine and the potential for showers and storms over the next few days.

While the potential for severity is fairly low, brief periods of heavy rain and frequent lightning are possible with any storm.

We may see some scattered showers Tuesday afternoon, then a series of thunderstorms move through the area in the evening.

It looks like these storms will be over Lancaster County, PA around 6pm; over Chester County around 7pm or 8pm, and in Philadelphia the best time for storms will be around 9pm or 10pm

As this storm loses daytime heating, it will weaken. Still, the late innings of the Phillies' game against the New York Yankees on Tuesday night could still be disrupted.

The current prediction is for the Phillies' home game against the New York Yankees on July 30 at Citizens Bank Park. First game is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

Temperatures will hover near or below average on Wednesday but will rise into the 90s by Thursday and beyond, signaling the possibility of another heat wave next weekend.

You may have heard about the huge wildfires in California, Oregon, and Canada. Hundreds of thousands of acres burned, destroying homes, towns, and state and federal forests. Sadly, California's largest fires Chico Park Fire, caused by arson. The Park Fire, which is nearly three times the size of Philadelphia, was still out of control as of Tuesday. The smoke from the park fire was so thick it was visible on satellite imagery.

The question is, will we see smoke from these western fires? So far it has stayed over the western United States and Canada, but over the next week it will drift over the Northern Plains, the Great Lakes and the upper Midwest. Rain over the next few days may keep smoke out of our area.

Here is the 7-day weather forecast:

Tuesday: The maximum temperature is 84 degrees, the minimum temperature is 74 degrees, with showers

Wednesday: The maximum temperature is 88 degrees and the minimum temperature is 75 degrees, with the possibility of storms

Thursday: The highest temperature is 94 degrees, the lowest temperature is 73 degrees, hot and humid

Friday: The maximum temperature is 91 degrees and the minimum temperature is 76 degrees. It is hot and there will be a storm in the afternoon.

Saturday: High temperature 90 degrees, low temperature 75 degrees, storm in the afternoon

Sunday: The maximum temperature is 91 degrees, the minimum temperature is 75 degrees, and it is sunny most of the time.

on Monday: The highest temperature is 89 and the lowest temperature is 73. Sunny and cloudy.
