Heavy rains wreaked havoc in several parts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday night, with a house collapsing in Haridwar district, killing three people and injuring at least six others.
A family was reported missing after heavy rains in a village in Gansali area of Tehri district, officials said.
Three people were killed and six others were injured after they were buried under the rubble when a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Balpur village near Roorkee in Haridwar district, police said.
The injured have been sent to hospital.
The sound of houses collapsing was so loud that villagers were frightened, police said.
Heavy rains that lasted for several hours in Haridwar flooded the entire city, washing away a Kanwariya truck on the Sushi river in Hakkali area.
Police said no Kanwariyas were on board the truck but it had rations and essentials for the return journey.
The Kanwaria family claimed that when they parked their truck there, no one warned them that the area would suddenly flood during heavy rains.
Sanjeet Kandhari, in-charge of Hakkari police station, said the truck was seen floating in the water. He said the vehicle would be retrieved once the rain stops.
On June 25, about a dozen four-wheelers were washed away on the same dry river bed when sudden flooding occurred due to heavy rain.
Roads were inundated with water in many parts of the city and rainwater also entered the Kanhar police station.
Many colonies and markets in Bhupatdwara, Haridwar, Naya Haridwar, Kankal and Jwalapur were flooded.
Roads at the Ranipur turning in Haridwar's posh business district also experienced severe waterlogging, with many large showrooms submerged. Latowali in Kankhal was flooded up to four feet.
The government changed the route of the Kanwariyas at many places as the roads were stuck.
Dehradun also received heavy rain for several hours.
A house collapsed due to heavy rains in Tala village in Pithoragarh district. Three other houses in the village were also damaged. However, neither incident resulted in any casualties.
