Bullet chilli is currently making a splash in the kitchens of Indian households for its outstanding flavour.

Bullet peppers are small peppers that are smooth, shiny and can be bright green or red. They are known to have medium to hot heat and can be used in cooking either unripe or ripe. Although it is common in China, it is also found in other parts of the world. Now, farmers in the Sundarbans have started cultivating these chillies and benefiting from them.

Bullet peppers are known to produce more product in a relatively short period of time compared to other varieties of peppers. Farmers in the Sundarbans are now benefiting from growing chillies. While regular peppers take about two and a half to three months to produce fruit, hybrid bullet peppers can produce yields in less than two months, which is a huge advantage for farmers. In addition, the yield of this crop is much higher than that of regular peppers. Therefore, farmers can earn additional profits by growing more peppers on small plots of land.

In wholesale markets, bullet peppers sell for a third of the price. However, due to the extremely high demand for chilli peppers, farmers can earn more profits compared to other varieties.

Therefore, farmers in and around the Sundarbans such as Jayanagar, Kutali, Gosaba and Basanti started growing bullet chillies and other vegetables in their fields to earn higher income.

Bullet chilli is currently making a splash in the kitchens of Indian households for its outstanding flavour. Increased demand for this has led to a decrease in demand for regular peppers and other varieties. Although prices are lower, prices are gradually rising in these areas due to high demand. At the same time, the export of peppers has also driven up prices, benefiting farmers. This makes growing chilli more convenient and profitable for Sundarban farmers.
