CCD Editor: We first reported on Hillary Clinton's $500,000 donation in May, when the Washington Examiner reported on it. It's great to see it thriving in the UK. Via The Telegraph:
U.S. financial disclosures show that Stop Oil was partly funded by a campaign group led by Hillary Clinton. [emphasis, links added]
Group founded by Mrs. Clinton after losing presidential bid has donated $500,000 (£391,500) Over the past three years, California financiers have been affected by protest groups.
American voters unwittingly financed the riots in Britain by buying tote bags emblazoned with Mrs Clinton's picture or sweatshirts promoting abortion rights.
Just Stop Oil’s largest financial backer is the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), a controversial California nonprofit. It funds stunts for environmental groups around the world, including Extinction Rebellion.
A transcript of the transparency disclosure seen by The Daily Telegraph shows: One of CEF's main backers is Forward Together, a campaign group founded by Mrs. Clinton after she ran for president in 2016 against Donald Trump.
Onward Together donated $300,000 to CEF in 2021 and an additional $200,000 in 2022.
It's the largest donation to a nonprofit in the past three years from Mrs. Clinton's organization Funding comes from public donations and merchandise sales from her online store.
However, while the Onward Together website lists some of the “partners” her group supports, there is no mention of CEF or Just Stop Oil, Who is the ultimate recipient of a portion of the funds donated.
An independent arm of Onward Together provides assistance to select candidates in U.S. elections.
Organizations like Just Stop Oil do not need to disclose their funding in the UK; But the group says it has received millions of pounds from its biggest backer, the CEF.
The group has previously been criticized for accepting money from foreign donors to fund its stunts, Recent incidents include the destruction of Stonehenge and the spray-painting at Heathrow Airport.
Some lawmakers have called for the group to be designated a terrorist organization. As of the end of last year, the total cost of the Metropolitan Police's Just Stop Oil policing program alone was nearly £20 million, and it is now likely to be much higher.
CEF was founded in 2019 by Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, and is committed to promoting governments to adopt climate-friendly policies.
The company has the backing of several Hollywood celebrities, including Succession star Jeremy Strong, who also sits on the company's board of directors. In addition to Mrs. Clinton, other major donors include a fund run by Susie Tompkins Buell, co-founder of the North Face clothing brand.
Mrs. Clinton's support for the organization, and indirectly the Stop the Oil protests, may come as a surprise to her donors, who are told only: Forward Together is “committed to elevating emerging organizations and leaders fighting for our shared progressive values and defending our democracy.”
