Mumbai traffic live updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “yellow alert” for the city till Saturday as rainfall in Mumbai is expected to surge in the coming days. Affected by heavy rain, flooding may occur in many areas of the city, causing traffic disruptions.
Traffic is also likely to be affected due to ongoing flyover works at various locations including Asangaon and Vashind, as well as potholes caused by rains.
Apart from this, the authorities recently notified that Mumbai's over 112-year-old century-old Sion Bridge, one of the famous landmarks of the financial capital, will be demolished. The development comes in the backdrop of recent bridge collapses due to heavy rains in the states of Wayanad and Bihar in Kerala.
In view of the closure of the Sion Bridge for reconstruction, the Mumbai Traffic Police has implemented certain traffic restrictions and diversions. The Zion Road Interchange (ROB) will remain closed to traffic from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026 to facilitate demolition and reconstruction work.
