When a disaster strikes, you may need to evacuate your home quickly, so it's important to pack a travel bag filled with essentials in advance.
But that doesn't mean you need anything fancy.

Things to bring with you should include non-perishable food, such as canned soup or oatmeal, and drinking water or a water purifier, she said.
You should also pack copies of all important documents, such as your ID and insurance coverage.
Print a map of your community and mark evacuation routes and where you may be told to go for support.
Wiggins: “Somewhere in an emergency, if I'm told to evacuate my home by a firefighter or a first responder or someone else, I know the way and I know how to get there without a GPS, without a cell phone, without a car. There.
Other items in your travel bag include cash, first aid kit, batteries, flashlight, blanket, tarp or poncho.
