Indian Police Service (IPS) Kerala cadre officer Nitin Agrawal of 1989 batch was relieved of his duties as Director General of BSF on Friday following orders of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC)
The government issued an order on Saturday saying that Daljit Singh Chaudhry will be given additional charge of Border Security Force following the early deportation of sitting officer Nitin Agrawal.
Agrawal, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Kerala cadre police officer, was relieved of his duties as BSF director general on an order of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister on Friday.
A Union Home Ministry order issued on Saturday said Chawdhary, a 1990-batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, will additionally hold the post of Director General, BSF, “till the appointment of a regular inductee or further orders, whichever is both”. It's early. Chaudhry is the commander-in-chief of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the force responsible for defending India's front lines with Nepal and Bhutan.
The ACC on Friday ordered the premature and immediate repatriation of Agrawal's deputy and special director general (west) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania to his superior cadre in Odisha.
The government's decision to replace two senior BSF officials comes against the backdrop of a series of terror attacks in the Jammu region along the India-Pakistan international border, which claimed the lives of a large number of army and security personnel as well as civilians.
The BSF is responsible for defending the India-Pakistan front line on the west side of India and Bangladesh on the east side.
