People hit by landslides are staying in 16 relief camps in Meppadi and other panchayats. Among them, 599 children and 6 pregnant women
More than 2,500 people, including 599 children and six pregnant women, whose lives were shattered by the deadly landslide, are currently staying in various relief camps in Wayanad, Kerala.
According to the latest official data released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), there are 16 relief camps in the hilly Meppadi and other rural panchayats where landslide victims live. The CMO said there are 2,514 people from 723 families in the refugee camp, including 943 men, 972 women and 599 children.
Authorities said six of the total women in the rescue camp were pregnant. According to government statistics, as of Sunday evening (August 4), 221 bodies and 166 body parts had been recovered. The number of missing people has been reduced from the previous 206 to 180 after authorities contacted some of them by phone.
