Thackeray began his campaign for Delhi after the Maha Vika Aghadi, a coalition of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP), won 31 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra First visit.
Chennithala told reporters that the meeting with Thackeray at the residence of Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut was informal.
Raut said since Thackeray leads the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Chennithala is in charge of the Congress party in Maharashtra, the discussion is obviously about the state and the upcoming elections. Said Thackeray plans to meet Kharg, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
Sources said on Tuesday that leaders of the Indian group may meet in the capital this week.
Maharashtra, a key state for the BJP and Congress, will go to polls in October this year.
Raut said on Monday that Thackeray was on his way to Delhi for a Savad tour.
“Leaders of the Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party will meet him,” a member of the Lok Sabha said.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Tuesday alleged that Thackeray went to Delhi for his chief ministerial ambitions and ignored the people of rain-affected Maharashtra.
“Thackeray went to Delhi to strike a better deal before the upcoming assembly elections. It seems he is more focused on his own political gains than addressing the sufferings of rain-affected people,” Nirupam told in Mumbai reporter.
He alleged that Thackeray was trying to project himself as chief minister of the MVA but Sharad Pawar was keen on giving his daughter Supriya Sule the prime minister's post.
Nirupam, who quit the Congress party earlier this year, said: “Thackeray has effectively surrendered before the Congress party, but there are several contenders for the chief ministership in the state Congress.”
