A large number of women blocked the Saharanpur-Delhi highway on Tuesday to protest against a company that allegedly cheated them in the guise of employment. The women claimed that the company involved in the case, Asian Enterprises, absconded with large sums of money they had invested. The authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently investigating the case.
According to victims, the company made grand promises and representations about employment opportunities, leading them to make large investments. The Asian business established four months ago in the Sadar Chowk police station area charges women Rs 2,400 as registration fee and provides 1 kg of wool for making flower-shaped items. After signing up, the company encourages participants to recruit more women and provides a commission of Rs 400 for each new recruit. In just four months, around 5,000 women are said to have joined the company.
Protesting women reported that after making these promises, the company registered thousands of women and paid them Rs 2,400 each. However, the company suddenly closed its offices and disappeared late Monday night, leaving the women with no recourse. In response, aggrieved women took to the streets, blocking roads in protest and demanding justice. Local police arrived at the scene and engaged with the protesters in an attempt to address their grievances and restore order.
Saharanpur SP City Abhimanyu Manglik reported that the police came to know about the situation through the women's protest. The women alleged that Asian Enterprise companies absconded after taking money from them on the pretext of providing employment. The authorities have assured victims that legal action will be taken against those responsible. Efforts are ongoing to gather all relevant details of the case and those suspected of receiving money from the women will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
