FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear announced Friday that the state will now accept Disaster Unemployment Insurance applications in eligible counties from people who lost their jobs or were unable to work due to the severe storms of May 21-27. The deadline to apply for DUA benefits is October 9th.
According to a news release from the governor’s office, the 15 eligible counties are Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Christian, Clay, Greenup, Hopkins, Knock Smith County, Logan County, Muhlenberg County, Simpson County, Todd County, Trigg County, Warren County and Whitley County. DUA unemployment benefits will cover unemployment for weeks between May 26 and January 25, 2025, as long as the cause of unemployment is related to a natural disaster.
People who live or work in one of the disaster-affected counties (President Joe Biden issued a major disaster declaration on July 23) can file for a DUI by: Kentucky Unemployment Insurance Office Online Or call 502-875-0442 to submit an initial claim.
People applying for DUA must provide their most recent federal or state income tax form or check stub, a bill confirming their address during the disaster, and a photo ID. Applicants have 21 days from the date of submission of the DUA application to submit documents, the release said.
Farmers and other self-employed workers who are not eligible for regular unemployment insurance may be eligible for DUA. People who are unable to work due to disaster-related workplace damage or closure, who are injured due to a disaster and are unable to work, or who are the primary breadwinner of their household as a direct result of the disaster may be eligible for DUA.
