MoS Ramdas Athawale said here on Thursday that Jammu and Kashmir's statehood may be restored and assembly elections may be held in October.
“Assembly elections are expected to be held in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand in October. Therefore, announcements about restoration of statehood and holding of assembly elections are likely to be held in October,” Federal Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Atharwale said at a press conference here.
He called on people to come out and vote in the election.
“I congratulate the people of JK for voting in large numbers in the parliamentary elections. JK is going well and there should be record-breaking voting in the parliamentary elections,” he said.

Athawale also said that while abrogating Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured the public that JK's statehood would be restored.
Earlier, Atharwal had called on JK Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan here.
“LG told me that JK is peaceful, but some elements try to create disturbances. However, the government has done a lot to make JK stronger,” he said.
