Wei Xunuo said that after careful consideration, the cabinet believes that the New Democratic Alliance government is committed to abiding by the provisions of the Constitution.
The Union Cabinet on Friday clarified that the Constitution framed by Dr BR Ambedkar does not provide for a “creamy layer” in the reservation system for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Wei Xunuo said that after careful consideration, the cabinet believes that the New Democratic Alliance government is committed to abiding by the provisions of the Constitution.
“The Supreme Court has given its judgment on reservation and made recommendations on reservation for SC and ST. A detailed discussion was held in the cabinet today… The NDA government is bound by the constitution framed by BR Ambedkar. Under the constitution of BR Ambedkar, in reservation for SC and ST , there is no provision for a cream layer,” Vaishnaw said.

He reiterated that reservations for caste and caste should be implemented as per constitutional guidelines.
Asked whether the issue was raised by the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment or the Prime Minister, Vishno said it was a considered view of the Cabinet.
