Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit landslide-affected Wayanad on Saturday to review rescue and rehabilitation efforts and interact with survivors.
According to an official, the Prime Minister will arrive in Kannur around 11 am to conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas in Wayanad.
Prime Minister Modi will arrive at the landslide-affected area around 12:15 pm, where he will be briefed by rescue forces on the evacuation efforts and oversee the ongoing recovery work. He will also visit relief camps and hospitals to meet and interact with victims and survivors of the disaster, the official added.
After the on-site inspection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a review meeting to receive a detailed briefing on the incident and ongoing rescue operations.
Landslides have killed more than 300 people so far
The landslide that occurred on July 30 killed more than 300 people and injured hundreds more. The Indian Army, NDRF and local emergency services continue to conduct large-scale search and rescue operations, with rescue teams currently focusing on forest areas.
The Kerala government has sought assistance from the families of the missing persons and local residents in the search effort.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded “higher compensation” and “comprehensive rehabilitation plan” for those affected by the Wayanad landslide while addressing the Assembly.
Gandhi also called on the government to declare the recent disaster in Wayanad a “national disaster”.
