A sub-inspector has been suspended after the audio of him asking potatoes to solve a case went viral on social media, a senior police official said on Saturday. Bribery, Chhibramau police officer has lodged a report in this regard.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Kannauj Police Commissioner Amit Kumar Anand has suspended outpost in-charge Ramkripal with immediate effect, the ASP said.
In the audio, it was said that he could offer only two kilograms of potatoes to solve the case, while Ram Kripal expressed dissatisfaction saying that a deal for five kilograms of potatoes had been finalized earlier, the official said.
The man then stated that due to the meager income from his business, he would not be able to meet the SI's requirements. He reiterated that he would only give him two kilograms of potatoes, while Ramkripal insisted on giving him the remaining three kilograms later.
Preliminary investigation into the departmental action has been handed over to circle officer (city) Kamlesh Kumar.
