A Mumbai-bound passenger was arrested after he inadvertently mentioned “bomb” during a routine security check at the international airport.
Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) on Sunday said Manoj Kumar (42), who was scheduled to take an Air India flight from Cochin to Mumbai on Sunday morning, reported to CISF during baggage X-ray inspection Officer made 'shocking' comments about inspection counter.
“During the pre-boarding security check, Mr Kumar asked the CISF officer: 'Is there a bomb in my bag?' The announcement immediately sparked concern and prompted swift action by the airport security team.”
Airport authorities said the Bomb Detection and Disposal Team (BDDS) conducted a thorough inspection of the passengers' cabin and checked baggage.
CIAL said after completing necessary checks, no threat was found and Kumar was handed over to the local police for further investigation.
The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) convened to assess the situation classified the threat as “non-specific,” meaning it was not credible but still required a comprehensive security response.
CIAL added that BTAC concluded the proceedings and the flight took off on time.
The Airport Authority said security checks have been stepped up at all airports in view of the approaching Independence Day and Cochin International Airport has issued a warning urging travelers to arrive at the airport early to avoid delays due to flight delays.
