    Two teenage boys drowned in rainwater collected in an open space in Ranihra village in Prem Nagar following Friday evening rains in Delhi.

    Delhi Police has filed an FIR against unknown persons after two teenagers drowned on a rain-filled vacant government land in Prem Nagar area of ​​Rohini, officials said.

    Two 17-year-old boys, Mayank and Divyansh, drowned in rainwater collected from an open space in Rani Khera village in Prem Nagar after it rained in Delhi on Friday night.

    Police said the boys had gone to take a shower, but family members said they had gone to play cricket at the venue.

    A senior police officer said that superficially it appeared that both boys had gone to take a bath in the water. He said that based on the complaint of the family, a case has been registered and investigation has begun.

    Families of the victims and other residents said the land had been vacant for years and water often accumulated in places when it rained.

    “This is a long-standing problem that happens every year during the monsoon season. A resident said that he has complained to the authorities several times about the water logging, but no action has been taken.

    It is a government land that fills up with water every year during the monsoon. He added that children often go there to play and enter deep water, which leads to the incidents.

    He further said that a similar incident occurred last year where a child drowned.

    Police officials said it is Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land which was awarded to the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) a few years ago.

    “The incident is tragic and painful and we express our deepest condolences,” the DDA said in a statement on Saturday. The vacant land where the incident occurred belongs to DSIIDC and was handed over to them in 2007. Mayank and Divyansh were in a school where Study in grade 11 in public schools.

    Mayank's father Ranjeet Kumar, who works in a private company, said his son had gone to play cricket with his friends.

    He said his son died due to the authorities' negligence.

    Divyansh's father Pramod Tomar, who works in a factory, said they wanted justice as negligence on the part of the authorities led to the loss of their son. Police said the matter is under further investigation.
