Flood-like conditions threaten to paralyze life for residents of the Millennium City in the national capital region after heavy rains lashed Delhi and adjoining areas. Many mocked the city's name, calling it “Jalgram” as they shared how people waded through waist-deep water while homes in posh areas were submerged.
The Met Office expects moderate to heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms in Gurgaon, while other experts have warned of severe waterlogging in many parts of the city.
Sharing videos and pictures on social media, some tagged the Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and deputy commissioner, while others also tagged the Haryana government and the chief minister office.
Internet users said roads had turned into “rivers” in areas such as Golf Course Road, where high-priced luxury apartments are located. Others criticized municipalities for failing to ensure basic drainage facilities, while others accused corruption in construction projects. Some netizens even suggested that the pensions and salaries of relevant civil officials should be suspended and losses recovered from their assets.

Another user on X referred to the city as “Kudagram” and posted a video of the roads in Area 52 filled with garbage. Many users called Gurgaon the “modern Venice” as severe waterlogging left cars submerged, while others complained of power outages and said they were “tired of the infrastructure”. “Heavy rain has turned Gurgaon into a modern-day Venice, with severe waterlogging and no drainage system in sight. Internet users also claimed that despite spending crores of rupees every year, the condition of roads and other municipal infrastructure remains poor. Many people reported collapsed roads and damaged sewage treatment facilities in different parts of the city.
