Kolkata police are awaiting the final post-mortem report to draw conclusions in the murder case of a woman doctor whose body was found at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here, a senior police officer said.
Preliminary autopsy reports indicate she was sexually abused and murdered.
“We are waiting for the final post-mortem report in this case to come to a conclusion,” the police officer told PTI.
Police said a preliminary autopsy report showed she was murdered after being sexually assaulted and ruled out suicide.
“Her eyes and mouth were bleeding and her face was bruised,” the report states. “The victim also bled from her private parts. She also suffered injuries to her abdomen, left leg… neck, right hand, ring finger and… lips.” Meanwhile, another officer said , indirect evidence suggests that the female doctor may have been murdered first and then raped by the arrested defendant.
“Evidence shows that the doctor was sleeping alone in a hospital conference room when she was attacked by the defendant. The woman tried to resist but was strangled. To make sure she was dead, he strangled her. The defendant had She may have been raped after the murder,” the police officer told PTI.
The police also seized the clothes and shoes worn by the defendant at the time of the crime.
As for whether other people were involved in the crime, the police officer said, “There is no evidence to suggest this yet.” “After the incident, the defendant went home and washed the clothes he was wearing. There was blood on his shoes. It was discovered during a search of his residence.
The body of the female doctor was found in a seminar hall at the RG Kar Government Hospital in north Kolkata on Friday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vowed to seek the death penalty against the perpetrators.
The accused, an outsider who reportedly frequented the hospital, was arrested and charged under BNS sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder). He was produced before a Calcutta court which remanded him to police custody till August 23.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police deployed a huge team at the hospital on Sunday.
“No one will be allowed to enter hospital premises without proper identification. We will ensure the complete safety of health workers in healthcare facilities.
Another official said the hospital authorities evicted two security guards employed on contract for the emergency room as they did not perform their duties properly, which to some extent led to the crime against the doctor.
