A drunk patient entered the emergency room of Patal State General Hospital and threatened a female doctor, warning her that she would face the same fate as a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
Doctors and nurses at a government hospital in West Bengal's Purbabardaman district staged a demonstration on Saturday, claiming a patient had threatened a female doctor if his treatment was delayed.
The patient entered the emergency room of Patal State General Hospital in an inebriated state and threatened the female doctor that she would face the same consequences as a trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital.
The body of the woman doctor was found in the seminar hall of a government-run hospital in north Kolkata on Friday. Preliminary autopsy reports confirmed that she was sexually abused before being killed.
Purba Bardhaman district health officer said: “The patient allegedly told the attending doctor that if the doctor did not treat him properly, he would ensure the same treatment as witnessed by the female doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.” The doctor said In line with duty and medical ethics, treatment was not discontinued and the matter was discussed with other staff. Today, they collectively came to the Ministry of Health office to demand that the man be punished and the safety of medical staff be guaranteed.
A senior police officer said the accused Sushanta Roy has been arrested.
District officials said Roy was a citizen volunteer and a contract employee for the local police.
