The government may reconsider controversial provisions of the Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill that have raised concerns among online content creators as it seeks to unite them with OTT or digital news broadcasters.
The bill was released for consultation in November last year and the new draft has been circulated among selected stakeholders to seek their views.
An official said the government may be willing to review certain provisions of the bill as it has prompted a strong reaction from some media representatives.
Representatives of the DigiPub News India Foundation and the Editors Guild of India, an organization representing over 90 digital news publishers, told a press conference here last week that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held closed-door consultations with selective stakeholders and with There was a wider discussion at the Editors Guild of India.
They have written to the ministry seeking a copy of the draft bill but have received no response.
