The family members of the deceased said that they first learned from the hospital that their daughter had committed suicide.
The assistant director of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was summoned to La Bazar by the police on Tuesday, was the first person to call the family from the hospital. Family members of the deceased said that the deceased initially told them that their daughter had committed suicide. a report Ananda Bazaar Patrika mentioned.
However, it was later discovered that it was a murder. Then the rape claims came to light, prompting police to open a case of rape and murder and begin an investigation.
From the outset, questions were raised as to why the death was initially described as a suicide. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the family of the deceased on Monday and received similar complaints. She later announced that they would investigate who first claimed suicide and that the police would question that person.
Police also recorded statements from seven junior doctors, four of whom had dined with the victim that night. The victim reportedly watched Neeraj Chopra's javelin throwing competition at the Paris Olympics before having dinner with four colleagues at 2:30 a.m. that night. Afterwards, she went to the seminar room to rest.
The victim's autopsy report showed cut marks were found on the victim's hands and face. Reports also indicate that a violent blow caused shards of glass from her glasses to break and enter her eyes. The accused reportedly hit the deceased's head against a wall, causing head injuries.
The half-naked body of a female PGT doctor, a second-year student in the thoracic department, was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday. She was on duty Thursday night and suffered multiple injuries. Her father claimed she was raped and murdered inside the hospital after a preliminary autopsy report revealed she had been sexually abused before her murder.
Kolkata Police identified and arrested one suspect in the case, Sanjay Roy. Roy was an outsider who had easy access to multiple departments of the hospital due to his role as a citizen volunteer on the Police Welfare Committee. Sources said Roy's activities were found to be quite suspicious and he was subsequently arrested.
