For decades, Fred Scherlinder Dobb served as the rabbi of Adat Shalom Reconstruction, a Jewish community in Maryland.
As a rabbi, he draws on Jewish teachings to advocate for climate action—helping protect the well-being of future generations.
Dobb: “Judaism has an expression that we use all the time, 'l'dor vador,' passed down from generation to generation—it's ultimately about sustainability.”
For Dobb, embodying this philosophy means taking action in his own community—for example, installing solar panels on the roof of a synagogue—and More broadly.
Dobb: “A lot of the work we do is in partnership with people of other faiths. We are deeply together.
As such, Dobb serves on the board of directors of the Interfaith Power and Light Network, which brings people of different religious backgrounds together to advocate for environmental policy.
He called on people of faith to be good ancestors for future generations.
Dobb: “In my opinion, faith and environment are inseparable. If we show that we love God, we will do so by caring especially for the most marginalized among us, especially the network of creation to which we belong, and especially us Show it to your own offspring.
