Girl was allegedly raped by 57-year-old neighbor and her parents only found out about the incident seven months into her pregnancy
A 14-year-old rape survivor who was allegedly raped by a neighbor and gave birth to a stillborn child was buried there without notifying anyone by her family out of fear of public humiliation, police said on Monday.
A case has been registered against the neighbor and the buried body has been exhumed and sent for autopsy, they said.
The girl was allegedly raped by her 57-year-old neighbor and her parents came to know about the incident after she was seven months pregnant, Murtihar station police officer Amitendra Singh told PTI.
The minor gave birth to a stillborn child on Friday, police said.
The girl's sister lodged a complaint against the accused on Saturday after learning about the incident while visiting her parents' house.
SHO Singh said a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and the stillborn child was exhumed from its grave on Sunday following the order of the magistrate.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused, he added.
