A man was arrested after he was unable to recall his home address at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, with subsequent investigations revealing serious discrepancies. When the incident occurred, the man arrived from Istanbul on Turkish Airlines flight TK-716 and sought immigration clearance at counter 20. The man named Mohammad Sakib Hasan seemed hesitant and had an obvious expression on his face. Despite repeated inquiries, he could not give a clear answer.
The immigration officer became suspicious of the situation and began a detailed interrogation. During the process, Hassan admitted that his real name was Muhammad Saqib Hassan, but the name on his passport was Abu Hassan Sheikh. Further investigation revealed that Hassan was from Dhaka, Bangladesh and his Indian passport had been obtained illegally.
The Immigration Department seized his passport and forwarded it to the Kolkata Regional Passport Office. Additionally, a Bangladeshi passport was found on Hassan’s mobile phone.
After the incident came to light, the Immigration Department handed over Hassan to the IGI Airport Police, who charged him under Sections 319 (2), 335, 336 (2) and 337 of the Indian Penal Code. Airport police formally arrested Hassan and initiated legal proceedings against him.
