The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered that the investigation into the gruesome rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Meanwhile, protests and strikes over the killing will continue on Wednesday with the AIIMS community reiterating its demand for implementation of the Central Protection Act.
Resident doctors, including foreign nationals and sponsored candidates, fellows and undergraduate students at AIIMS will continue the strike, including suspension of academic activities, elective OPD, ward and OT services. However, emergency services, ICU, emergency procedures and emergency OT will continue to function, RDA AIIMS, New Delhi said in a statement.
Students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur also held a rally on Tuesday night against the rape and murder of a female PG trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College.
