An order issued by the home ministry said Prabhat, a 1992-batch Andhra Pradesh IPS officer, was posted to Jammu and Kashmir “with immediate effect”.
Distinguished IPS officer Nalin Prabhat was on Thursday appointed as Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police and will lead the force after RR Swain retires on September 30.
An order issued by the home ministry said Prabhat, a 1992-batch Andhra Pradesh IPS officer, was posted to Jammu and Kashmir “with immediate effect”.
It is said that after Swain retired on September 30, “Prabat was appointed as the Deputy Director General of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Prabhat, 55, is a three-time Police Medal for Gallantry recipient and leads the Greyhounds, the dedicated anti-Naxalite police force in his erstwhile cadre state Andhra Pradesh.
He has served in a wide range of capacities in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as General Commander and Assistant Director General, deployment in Kashmir.
The government on Wednesday shortened Prabhat's tenure as NSG director-general and ordered his inter-cadre delegation to be sent to AGMUT from Andhra Pradesh.
An order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) said it is approving a proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to “shorten” the tenure of the Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), IPS, 1992.
The order said it also sanctioned “inter-cadre representation of Prabhat from Andhra Pradesh to the AGMUT cadre for an initial period of three years from the date of joining the AGMUT cadre or until further orders, whichever is earlier, to relax inter-cadre representation guidelines.
