Parents of postgraduate trainee doctor tell CBI that several interns and doctors at the hospital may have been involved in the crime
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, said on Friday it had identified at least 30 people involved in the case, whose names were provided by the victim's family.
Sources from CBI revealed news18 They are now looking for a larger conspiracy, suggesting the incident may have been orchestrated to “suppress something”.
Sources added that investigative agencies have questioned more than 30 people over the past three days and uncovered several clues.
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of the investigation from Kolkata Police to India's Central Bureau of Investigation. Police were initially handling the case.
Victim's family believes colleague was involved in crime
The half-naked body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week and his parents told CBI that several interns and doctors at the hospital may have been involved in the crime, news agency PTI reported.
“The parents told us that they suspected multiple people were involved in the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They gave the names of some interns and doctors who worked with her at the hospital,” the CBI official said.
Meanwhile, the agency is prioritizing questioning of these people as well as the Kolkata police involved in the preliminary investigation.
The CBI on Friday summoned a resident staff member and two postgraduate interns who were on duty with the doctor on the night she was murdered. The agency also accompanied former hospital director Sandeep Ghosh for questioning.
Ghosh resigned two days after his body was found, expressing concern about potential attacks, prompting his lawyers to seek protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court advised him to take further action.
