Senior bureaucrat Punya Salila Srivastava has been appointed as the new health minister as part of a major top-level bureaucracy reshuffle implemented by the Center on Friday.
According to the Personnel Ministry order, Srivastava, who is currently Special Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, will first take over as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
It is said that she will take over as health minister after current health minister Apurva Chandra retires on September 30.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has been appointed as the new Defense Minister.
He will first take over the OSD portfolio of the Ministry of Defense and then serve as Defense Minister upon the retirement of current Defense Minister Aramane Giridhar on October 31, 2024.
Minority Affairs Minister Karthikita Srinivas will be the next Housing and Urban Affairs Minister.
Senior bureaucrat Deepti Umashankar has been appointed as the new secretary to the President of India.
Financial Services Minister Vivek Joshi will serve as the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Secretary, the order said.
Nagaraju Maddirala, a senior IAS officer who is currently the additional secretary in the coal ministry, will succeed Joshi as the new financial services minister.
