Shortly after midnight on Thursday, a mob forced entry and vandalized the state medical college's premises as part of a women's “take back the night” protest driven by social media.

Last week, a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered during a mob riot at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, sparking controversy on many fronts. While the major political parties were busy attacking each other, Kolkata police released several photos of the incident, identifying the people who entered the health facility and ransacked the emergency room.

In photos posted on social media, Kolkata police surrounded the faces of several people in the mob and sought information about them.

“Information needed: Anyone who can help identify the person circled in red in the image below can provide assistance directly to us or through your local PS,” the Facebook post read.

In “Take Back the Night” protests fueled by social media, women sought justice for a 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, shortly after unidentified gangsters forced their way into the state medical college 's school building.

A group of nearly 40 people, allegedly disguised as protesters, entered the hospital building, vandalized property and threw rocks at police, prompting them to fire tear gas to disperse the mob, according to police.

A police vehicle and several two-wheelers at the spot were also damaged in the incident, they said.

Police urge people to stop spreading false news

In another social media post, Kolkata Police urged people not to spread misinformation about the incident. “The crime scene is a seminar room, intact and untouched. Do not spread false news. We will take legal action,” police wrote.

Pronoy Das, a hospital security guard who was on duty when the incident occurred, said: “About 500 to 1,000 people came here at about 1 o'clock last night. We locked the door here, but they The door was broken. We went to another door but they broke it down and there were 10 or 12 of us, so we were no match and they damaged the property. They destroyed everything from computers to medicines and even damaged CCTV cameras.

    BJP accuses 'TMC goons'

BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed that the vandalism was carried out by “TMC goons” sent by party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

“Mamata Banerjee sent her TMC goons to attend a non-political protest rally near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. She thinks she is the shrewdest person in the world and people cannot figure out her cunning plans, her The mob, posing as protesters, mingled with the crowd and wreaked havoc inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,” Adhikari said in a post on X.

Adhikari also claimed that the police provided safe passage to the gangsters.

“The police provided them with safe passage but the police either ran away or looked elsewhere so that the gangsters would enter the hospital and destroy the area containing vital evidence to avoid being discovered by the CBI,” he claimed in the post.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee said he spoke to Goyal and urged him to “ensure that every case against him is identified within the next 24 hours.” Those responsible for today's violence should be held accountable and brought to justice, regardless of their status.” political stance”.

“RG Kar's hooliganism and vandalism tonight have exceeded all acceptable limits. As a public representative I have just spoken to CPKolkata,” he said in a post on X.

Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress and Lok Sabha MP, tweeted: “The hooliganism and vandalism in RG Kar tonight has exceeded all acceptable limits. “The demands of the protesting doctors are fair and reasonable. It is the minimum they can expect from the government. Their safety and security must be prioritized,” Banerjee said.

Last week, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

On the morning of August 9, the half-naked body of the 31-year-old woman was discovered in the discussion hall of the government-run hospital in the capital of West Bengal. A citizen volunteer has been arrested in connection with the crime.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of investigation into the case from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
