Foxconn chairman says Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant's recruitment of all types in India is on the rise

Foxconn Chairman Liu Yang said on Saturday that the company hires employees regardless of gender, but in India, women, especially married women, have made huge contributions to its efforts.

The chairman of the Taiwanese iPhone contract manufacturer spoke at the inauguration of its women-only residential complex.

Foxconn's chairman said the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant is seeing an upward trend in all types of recruitment in India.

“Foxconn does not discriminate between genders when recruiting, but women do make up a large part of our workforce. I want to emphasize that married women have made a huge contribution to our efforts,” Liu said.

The Taiwanese company recently faced accusations of discrimination in hiring married women. The electronics manufacturing giant is reluctant to hire married women in India, a report said.

Foxconn denied the report and said 25% of its new employees are married women.

The company said at the time that about 70% of Foxconn factories are women and 30% are men, and that the Tamil Nadu factory employs the most women in the country.

Liu said the women's residential complex provides peace of mind to employees who live far from home and shortens their work commutes.

“This residential complex is now an important part of Foxconn in Tamil Nadu. It joins our commitment to sustainability in India. For example, we are achieving zero waste to landfill certification in Asia, America and Europe. We are also practicing in India Zero liquid discharge technology, energy efficient equipment and rainwater harvesting,” he said.

The Foxconn chairman said sustainable development is not only about cleaner, greener infrastructure, but also about developing communities.

“Opportunities for women in India are inextricably linked to health and safety at work. Having a sustainable living environment helps them succeed.

The complex, built by the State Industrial Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) and inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, will provide accommodation to over 18,000 women employees of Foxconn on a shared room basis.

The project covers an area of 20 acres and the total cost is approximately Rs 706 crore.
