A 21-year-old man who had symptoms similar to those of the Kindipura virus infection died at a hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday while undergoing treatment, an official said.
According to the health department, the man's test report from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) confirmed that he is not infected with the virus.

He said the man developed symptoms similar to those of Chindipura virus infection, following which his samples were sent to NIV in Pune for examination on August 10.
After the death of the patient, the official said, “The test report did not find that the man was infected with the Kindipura virus.” He said the man, a resident of Kagan, was admitted to Indore Hospital on August 6 for better treatment. .
The official said that not a single confirmed case of Kindipura virus has been reported in Indore district so far.
Kindipura virus causes fever and acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). The symptoms of this disease are similar to those of the flu. The disease is spread through vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks and sandflies.
