Services launched in Meerut city will bring convenience to travelers traveling to Ghaziabad and Delhi
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will open the Meerut South station under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project from Sunday, it was announced on Saturday.
The station, the first in Meerut, will be open for passengers from 2 pm on Sunday.
As of now, the Namo Bharat train service operates only from Ghaziabad till Modi Nagar North. Now, the services launched in Meerut city will bring convenience to travelers traveling to Ghaziabad and Delhi. These people will find it easier and faster to travel to their destinations. It will also provide assistance to those traveling from Ghaziabad or Delhi to Meerut for work or education.
Meerut South will be the next stop after Modi Nagar North.
“The Meerut South RRTS station will be opened for passenger operations at 2 pm tomorrow. With this eight-km stretch, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is now operational with a total length of 42 km, including from Ghazi 9 stations from Sahibabad in Abad to Meerut South.
The RRTS started operations in a small part of Ghaziabad in October 2023. The road is 17 kilometers long and is located between Sahibabad and Duhai stations in Ghaziabad. Further extension in March. At least 2.2 million passengers have traveled on the service so far.
The entire corridor between Delhi and Meerut will have 25 stations.
So far, a 34-km stretch of the corridor has been opened to the public in Ghaziabad with eight RRTS stations connecting Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South and Modi Nagar North. NCRTC expects to complete the entire stretch between Delhi and Meerut by June 2025.
Of the total length of 82 km, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 68 km.
As per the current plan from Delhi, Modipuram and Modipuram stations are the last stops of Meerut RRTS.
The RRTS will enter Delhi from Anand Vihar, the next stop after Sahibabad. In Delhi, the RRTS will stop at New Ashok Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan and Jangpura.
Once all completed, the distance between Meerut and the national capital can be covered in less than an hour. It will not only ease the lives of daily commuters but also help control air pollution. The service is expected to remove more than one lakh private vehicles from the roads.
