    Himachal Pradesh: 51 incidents of heavy rain and flash floods since the onset of monsoon, killing 31 people

    Lahaul and Spiti recorded 22 such incidents, the highest in the state, followed by Kinnaur with 11, Una with 6, Kullu and Mandi with 3 each, Sirmaur with 2, Chang One case each in Baghdad, Hamirpur, Shimla and Solan districts.

    Lahaul and Spiti recorded 22 such incidents, the highest in the state, followed by Kinnaur with 11, Una with 6, Kullu and Mandi with 3 each, Sirmaur with 2, Chang One case each in Baghdad, Hamirpur, Shimla and Solan districts.

    Data showed that 121 houses were fully or partially damaged.

    The National Emergency Operations Center said 35 landslides occurred during the same period, killing three people.

    At nine o'clock, Mandy reported the highest number of landslides. Six landslides each were reported from Kinnaur and Shimla, four each from Lahaul, Spiti and Chamba, three from Solan, two from Kullu and one from Bilaspur, the report said.

    Data for other regions are not available.

    However, residents in several areas claim that the number of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides is much higher than official statistics indicate.

    Meanwhile, the state Emergency Operations Center said light rain continued to fall in parts of the state, with 95 roads closed Sunday morning.

    It was said that 33 roads were closed in Kullu, 23 roads each in Mandi and Shimla, 10 roads in Kangra, two roads each in Chamba and Kinnaur, and one road each in Hamirpur and Una.

    As many as 47 electricity and 35 water schemes were also affected.

    According to officials, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of Rs 1,140 crore so far, with road infrastructure being the worst damaged. The Public Works Department suffered a loss of Rs 502 crore, followed by the Jal Shakti Department (Rs 469 crore) and Horticulture Department (Rs 139 crore).

    The local weather bureau has issued a “yellow” warning for heavy rain in some parts of the state until August 21.
